The Mountain card is a reminder of inner fortitude - that immense force which helps us move forward in the face of life's challenges. But just like a muscle that needs to be worked on consistently, strength is something that needs to be reinforced in our everyday life. Every time we say no to something that we don't want, or act in our own best interest, or do something despite our fears, we are recognizing and honouring the immense mountain of strength within. 

Being strong does not equal being aggressive, it simply means remembering who you truly are and remembering that you have a choice. When we can't control the hurricane outside, we can actually tap into the vast resources within. 

So as you read through this message, ask yourself - at what time in your life did you feel the strongest? How did it feel to overcome the storm? Do you sometimes forget how that victory felt? Remember that you are still the same person and if you ever need to get back on track, you can still turn WITHIN. It's okay to get lost or overwhelmed, but important to keep going. The best view comes after the hardest climb.

We all are currently undergoing stress in some way or the other; working from home, odd hours, unreasonable deadlines; too much to do and not enough time to do it in. 

Stress can change the balance of bacteria that naturally live in the gut. These bacteria affect immune function and may help explain why stress dysregulates the immune system.

Stress can trigger a lot of behavioral, cognitive, emotional and physical symptoms and an upset Stomach, including diarrhea, constipation and nausea are some of those. Long term stress can lead to chronic issues. 
 
Exposure to stress leads to changes in composition, diversity and number of gut microorganisms. 

The bacterial communities in the intestine become less diverse, and have greater numbers of potentially harmful bacteria, such as Clostridium( Bacteria that causes colon infection). These changes can have profound implications for physiological function through the vagus nerve which connects the gut to all our other systems. 

When we reduce the number of bacteria in the intestines using antibiotics, we find that some of the effects of stress on the immune system are prevented. This suggests that not only does stress change the bacteria levels in the gut, but that these alterations can, in turn, directly impact our immunity.
 
Managing stress is all about giving our Vagus Nerve some serious TLC.
The vagus nerve system acts to counterbalance the fight or flight system and can trigger a relaxation response in our body. It is one of the cranial nerves that connect the brain to the body and is a major part of how our bodies and brains function; without it, our bodies wouldn’t be able to do basic tasks, and by stimulating it we can receive powerful health benefits.
 
A good foot massage, deep breathing, laughter, and eating fibre anre some of the ways to stimulate the vagus nerve and manage stress.

We are getting into a good rhythm. Starting the day with kombucha, Bone/Vegetable Broth Soups, good quality probiotic and digestive enzymes followed by breakfast including poached eggs and avocado, sprouted oats or healthy pancakes. The lunch and dinner are also on track and the stomach feels light and energy levels are up.

This week we are told to remind ourselves to say no when we need to! Take a pause when we are constantly rushing around for work or to meet friends. Doing this leads to exhaustion by the middle of the day and you start feeling the lethargy creep in. 

Say No!

Saying NO means you are saying NO to Inflammation. We must find time for ourselves, enjoy activities and do them in a relaxed manner. This leads to balanced cortisol levels and stable insulin as a result. Hence sugar cravings are not triggered. Constantly saying yes and not able to cope with the flurry of demands on our mental and physical state results in a cascade of cortisol and wipes out Endorphins leaving us depleted and burnt out leading to Chronic fatigue and Adrenal fatigue.

Managing stress is important for many aspects of health, including gut health. 

Exercising regularly, sleeping well, and eating a healthful diet along with meditation, deep breathing exercises, and progressive muscle relaxation go a long way in maintaining optimum health.
